How many restrooms does a race need?
Start with the corral, not the course. Most of your crowd is standing still at the start for 20 to 40 minutes, and that's where the line forms. Standard portable toilet rental units work fine for most runners, but plan on ADA accessible porta potty units too. ADA Standards section 213.2 requires that where single-user units are clustered, at least 5 percent be accessible, with a minimum of one unit even for small clusters. That means a start line with 15 units needs at least one ADA unit, not zero.
Spread the rest along the course at aid stations, not just the finish. A 10K with three water stops needs coverage at each one, plus a bigger bank at the finish where finishers linger, stretch, and wait for friends. If your race draws spectators, count them separately using the same math you'd use for event restroom rental planning. For bigger fields, look at what a 4 stall restroom trailer or 8 stall restroom trailer can absorb at the finish line, since a trailer moves a line faster than a bank of single units. Races that draw a Chippewa Falls or Altoona crowd, 11.1 miles and 5.1 miles from Eau Claire respectively, often see spectator numbers spike near the finish, which changes the ratio fast.
What does it cost to rent restrooms for a race?
Race weekends are short rentals with a lot of units delivered at once, so pricing runs by the day or the weekend, not the month. Here's what the numbers look like:

How to brace a temporary power pole for a race timing tent
If your finish line runs timing equipment, a results board, or a PA system, you likely need a temporary power pole rather than running extension cords across a runner corridor. Bracing matters here: a pole that gets bumped by a golf cart or a barricade mid-race can knock out your timing feed at the worst possible moment. The pole needs a stable base, guy wires or a braced frame rated for the load, and placement clear of the runner lane and any vehicle path servicing aid stations. OSHA 1926.404(b)(1)(ii) covers ground fault circuit interrupter protection for temporary power on a work site, and a race command post counts. Pair the power pole with a light tower rental if your race starts before sunrise, which is common for summer marathons trying to beat the heat.
Keep the power setup at least the same clearance you'd give a delivery truck. Do we need ADA units even for a small 5K?
Yes. ADA Standards section 213.2 requires at least one accessible unit in any cluster, regardless of race size. A 5K with six standard units still needs one ADA unit at the start or finish.
Can restrooms be placed along the course, not just at start and finish?
